Alianza launches its 5-year campaign
Five years can be a short time when measured against the long histories of inequality that shape philanthropy, climate finance, socio-environmental justice, and relationships between the Global North and the Global South. These are histories marked by asymmetries in how resources move, whose knowledge is recognized, and where decisions are made.
But five years can also be enough time for something important to take root.
Alianza will complete five years at the end of this year. This milestone invites us to look back at the network’s trajectory, but also to look around and ahead: at what has been built, what has become more visible, and what local funds from the Global South continue to bring to conversations on finance, climate, nature, and socio-environmental justice.
Alianza was born from the strength of funds already rooted in their own territories, communities, movements, and histories. Its members include local, territorial, regional, and thematic funds working alongside communities, peoples, and organizations that are sustaining concrete solutions in their own contexts.
This work is the foundation of the network. It shows that funding can move differently when it is guided by proximity, trust, autonomy, flexibility, and long-term relationships. It also shows that communities are not only recipients of support, but holders of knowledge, strategy, political vision, and responses the world needs to take seriously.
Over the past five years, Alianza has grown as a space for these funds to come together, learn from each other’s practices, strengthen relationships, and bring shared questions into broader political conversations.
A two-way movement
There is a movement that guides Alianza’s work: between territories and the spaces where global agendas are shaped.
From the territories to the world, Alianza helps carry the voices, practices, knowledge, and proposals that emerge from communities, local organizations, and member funds, and that increasingly need to inform global conversations.
From the world to the territories, Alianza works so that resources, decisions, trust, and narratives move closer to the places where change is already happening, in ways that are more just, accessible, flexible, and rooted in local realities.
The five-year anniversary will be celebrated in December. But this campaign begins now as an invitation to accompany the journey. Over the coming months, Alianza will share stories, memories, articles, videos, and reflections about the network’s trajectory, the work of its members, the relationships that sustain it, and the future it is helping to imagine.
